Very sought after Model 1936 (M36) Type II / B2 Chained SS Officer Dagger (Schutzstaffel Kettendolch für Offiziere.) The blade on this one is in wonderful condition, the crisp acid etched “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” motto is beautifully executed. The crossgrain is easily visible all the way from the hilt to tip. The tip comes to a perfect point and it continues to hold a nice and tight fit. There is no maker mark and this is exactly how they were issued from the factory. The blade rates Exc++/NM. It shows age spotting and spidering along with the common surface scratches/runner marks but overall with a mint motif it display amazingly. The steel based black anodized scabbard body on this one looks excellent. It shows the standard storage wear and typical spotting. It continues to remain completely dent free and continues to hold some of its original factory lacquer. The scabbard fittings look excellent. The ball remains perfectly round. All six screws remain intact. The chain is the Type I variation that is steel plated. The chain’s links show wonderful detail to the skulls and SS runes. The correct first upper link is clearly “SS” proof marked to the underside, the clip continues to work well and the scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect. The plated crossguards are in excellent shape matching the scabbard fittings in color and patina. The black hardwood grip is in typical condition. It has some hits, flakes and chips throughout. The grip to crossguard fits are perfect. The aluminum eagle still retains some nice detail and a perfect fit. The SS roundel retains 90% of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. Overall this is a great dagger and textbook in every way possible!
