Description
A very attractive and textbook original Heer M43 cap ’Einheitsfeldmütze’ manufactured from the standard field-grey wool used for German Army field headgear. The cap retains the desirable classic shape, including the characteristic teardrop-shaped crown, complete pull-down side panels and original fastening buttons. The wool remains in very good condition free from moth damage and displays beautifully. The front retains its original factory-applied Heer trapezoid insignia incorporating the national eagle and cockade. An especially desirable construction detail is visible here: the insignia was applied before the final assembly of the cap and its lining, with the cap’s topstitching running over the stitching used to attach the insignia. This is an excellent period construction characteristic and provides a very convincing indication that the insignia has remained with the cap since manufacture rather than having been reapplied or restored later. Truly a fantastic, textbook M43 cap here!
