Description
The nickel hilt of this example is exceptionally nice with good hand enhancing to the feathering of the eagle head pommel. The crossguard features the overlapping oak leaves on the obverse and half of the crossguard has the oak leaves on the reverse. This blade is stamped 317 which matches the number stamped on the scabbard mount. This would indicate that the police bayonet has been together since the war. The scabbard has one small dent, other than this the leather and scabbard are both solid throughout, attached is an early brown leather frog which is collectible in its own right! The stag plates are a very pleasing rich brown color and the original holes are at the bottom of both grips which remain from the time when the hilt was longer and once had a clamshell. The grip plates are retained by aluminum rivets having dressed heads on the obverse and the reverse. The insignia is an aluminum open style featuring the police eagle with swastika superimposed over an oval wreath. The blade has been cut down to the 13 inch length and is in perfect condition with the clamshell being removed as well per regulations. The reverse is marked with the early Eickhorn logo featuring the larger double ovals. The ovals contain the firm’s name and location in the center is a seated squirrel with the initials C. E. beneath. A nice, untouched example here.
