Description
If you like rare, and very clean examples at that, this helmet is for you…Consisting of a beautiful early fixed bale steel helmet with a period Lieutenant bar in white painted to the front. Both khaki chinstraps are present as well. The paint on the shell is fantastic, the inside of the steel shell shows the original soldiers serial number which can possibly be researched, the liner is also painted with the same stencil, making this a 100% period matched set.
The consists of an incredibly rare high pressure liner produced by the (Inland Manufacturing Company.) Manufactured in Dayton, Ohio these M-1 helmet liners were identified by an embossed “INLAND” in the crown. Inland Manufacturing Division started M-1 helmet liner delivery to the US Army in September 1942. They produced approximately 1,900,000 M-1 helmet liners and converted about 75,000 liners to airborne configuration, this was roughly 6% of all WWII helmet liners made. Inland discontinued M-1 helmet liner production in 1943, making their liners all early examples. What is fantastic is the fact this is a very, VERY, early produced example by Inland in regards to the internal snaps for a snap in sweatband, these were only used for a very short period of time, this would be considered a “transitional” example has it has an early double bar sweatband used instead! The liner also has a near mint early leather chinstrap still attached as well. Truly a remarkable piece for any serious collectors display.
I can not stress how incredibly rare of a set this is, it is 100% complete and without any post war modifications, hands down one of the nicest Inland made set that you will ever be able to find!
