Description
Here we have another amazing SS photo album that came out of a world renowned collection we have been helping liquidate. This is a fantastic and incredibly rare photo album to an early member of the 1st SS-Totenkopfverband “Oberbayern” and then later on the Waffen SS-Totenkopf Police Division. This album has some incredible shots of the early training days at Dachau, as well as some shots from the early invasion of Poland in 1939, later in the album there are photos of tanks an even rare shots of the SS-Police. This album has some great shots of TK members as well as NCO’s and even high ranking SS officers. The album is identified on the inside cover to SS-Mann Erich Schmidt, 6th Regiment 1st SS-Totenkopfverband Division “Oberbayern” underneath this is a poem from the field he also wrote down. This album is placed in the rare SS black photo album cover with the “Erinnerungen an Meine Dienstzeit SS- Totenkopfverband “Oberbayern” which translates to (Memories of My Service in SS-Totenkopfverband “Oberbayern”.) These album covers alone are incredibly rare and very displayable in their own merits.
The 1st TK-Standarte ‘Oberbayern’. Formed 1937 at Dachau. During the Polish invasion conducted so-called “security operations” behind the lines. Which, in reality were operations of terrorizing and murdering the Polish civilian population as part of the Einsatzgruppen (death squads.) Redesigned 1st. SS-Totenkopf-Infanterie-Regiment, and assigned to the Totenkopf Division. It was used for “police duties” during the invasion of Poland behind the lines of the 10. Armee between Upper Silesia and the Vistula river. These duties consisted of hunting down the remaining polish soldiers, terrorizing the civilians and murdering political leaders, priests, intellectuals and Jews.
This album is filled with 150 photos. Totenkopf related images like this are extremely hard to come by, one identified to one of the original members of the Totenkopf Division is very rare..
