Description
Very rare and sought after identified uniform grouping to a member of the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment. Pulled from the family in Chicago is this incredible uniform set with the ike jacket, as well as the trench coat worn during the war. They both have no holes or damage, the coat is missing one button and has one in the pocket. This set is identified to Pfc. Joseph Michael Gowgiel, he would be a replacement for the 82nd Airborne after their serious losses on D-Day, he would serve 1.5 years overseas earning 3 theater stars for the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe, participating in the Holland invasion during operation Market Garden. After some digging I found he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, Company G. The only damage I can see to this set is the invasion arrowhead on his ribbon bar has fallen off. This set is not something thrown together post war, all of this came from the family and has a provenance showing this. After the war Pfc. Gowgiel would come back to the Chicago, IL area and become a Doctor of Dental practices, later becoming a professor of Dental Anatomy at Loyola University. He would live till the old age of 89 years old, passing away December 16th, 2015. Another one of Americas heros who was apart of what I consider the greatest generation!
