I recently pulled this directly from the woodwork in a large group of German medals and insignia from a U.S. veteran locally. This group all came together in the black jewelry case, the group consists of NSDAP long service ribbon, small version Golden Party Badge (broken pin) produced by Deschler & Sohn, Political Leader visor cap cocarde (rzm marked), and a golden NSDAP button as worn on political uniforms, I have no doubt these all came off the same uniform. After further research from Robert Mcdivitt we were lucky enough to identify the original recipient.
This badge was awarded to Georg Burkel NSDAP# 70462, born 11/25/1905, he would join the nazi party 11/14/1927 being a loyal member from the original days of the NSDAP, he would earn his NSDAP Golden Party Badgeon 04/12/1934. Originally a baker, he would become a local Political Leader in Bayerische Ostmark after the Nazi Party grew in power. He would pass away near the beginning of World War Two on 04/14/1939 at the age of 34 years of age. In his documents that are attached show after his death the family got his original party booklet and awards. I think one of the best features of this research is the photograph of his party book ID, he is wearing the badge we offer here, incredible time capsule grouping to one of the original members of the NSDAP party!
Note – All Party members who had uninterrupted service with the NSDAP from 27th February 1925 and/or had an NSDAP Party Number from No 1 to 100,000 were eligible for the Golden Party Badge. Due to the requirement of unbroken service, a total number of only 22,282 badges were awarded. The Golden Party Badge consisted of two pieces, a standard NSDAP party badge, a gold frame, and a pin attached to the back of the frame. The Golden Party Badge was produced in two sizes. The large badge, to be worn on the uniform, measured 30.5 mm wide and weigh 13-14 grams depending on the type of pin. The small badge, for civilian wear, measured 25 mm and weighted 8 grams. Only two makers produced the badges. Deschler & Sohn produced both the large and small sized badges. Jos. Fuess produced only the small size awards. The makers are easily identified by the style of the wreath. Different types of pins were used on the badge, and some badges have period replacements. The reverse has the member’s party number,
