Description

Here we have a War Wounded DRL (Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen – German National Union for Physical Training) Sports badge. The war wounded version was implemented in 1940, for those military veterans of the Wehrmacht who had been wounded in combat and could no longer perform the physical tests. The wounded version of the badge was designed with different criteria and only those rated with a disability could qualify for the badge. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been silver washed and gold gilded. The oval shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed “DRL” in silver stylized letters which is surrounded by a gold oak leaf wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a ribbon and swastika. The silvered reverse correctly displays a; soldered block hinge, soldered flat wire catch and flat wire pin. It is also marked “DRGM 35269” and “Wernstein Jena”. It continues to retain beautiful details, frosting and gilt!
