Description

Incredibly early  set of Heer (Army) M36 shoulderboards as worn by an Enlisted Man in the Panzer schützen Regiment 3. Early dark green constructed shoulderboards with the embroidered gothic S for “Schützen” and the embroidered number 3 for 3rd Regiment. Piped in rosa pink on the edge boarder as well as the embroidered letters, this indicates service in a Panzer Division. Clear signs of being worn and removed from a uniform, these straps would have been worn by one of the earliest of Schützen soldiers. When it comes to early German insignia, the embroidered shoulderboards are always sought after, ones related to early armored divisions are sought after. One board shows a few moth nips while the other is perfect. The embroidery is different from one another but they are no doubt a matched set.

Notes – When Germany first introduced Motorized Infantry in the 1930s those regiments that were the Infantry component of the Panzer Divisions, prior to being known as Panzer Grenadiers (from 1942), were termed ‘Schützen Regimenter’ (organized into ‘Schützen Brigaden’)  Overall this set is fantastic, with matching wear and clear signs of being field worn. Truly a rare set to find these days!
