Description

Very nice set for a Kriegsmarine (Navy) salior. The cap is a large size 60, the inside lining shows the manufacture mark located in Hamburg with 1943 date. The cap is a base blue “Donald Duck” cap with a white summer cover over the top, the 1 piece removable national emblem and cocade can be removed and the white top removed to turn it back into a base dark Navy blue cap. The white summer top has some light staining that could easily be cleaned. There is no damage or repairs, the tally reads ‘Marineschule Kiel‘ indicating this was worn by someone located at the famous Navy School in Kiel, Germany. I was lucky enough to find a period photo of one of these tally’s being worn. This was the hub of German Navy during the 2nd World War. Great looking cap!

Note – TheGerman Imperial Naval Academy (Marineakademie) at Kiel, Germany, was the higher education institution of the Imperial German Navy, Kaiserliche Marine, where naval officers were prepared for service in the higher levels of command, from 1872 until 1910. During WWII it would become the hub for the Kriegsmarine (Navy) forces. In April 1945, as World War II neared its end, the Kriegsmarine’s primary Baltic base, Kiel, harbored three significant German cruisers: the heavy cruisers Admiral Scheer and Admiral Hipper, and the light cruiser Emden. These ships, in varying states of readiness, faced relentless RAF bombings, which led to their eventual destruction.
